Over the past 20 years, Shannon has been a steadfast advocate for her students with special needs. She has been an effective member of the IEP team supporting parents and their educational and functional learning goals for their child. Shannon holds a California Teaching credential as an Educational Specialist for students with moderate to severe disabilities and a Master's Degree in Education Curriculum and Instruction. Shannon's passion for special education rights has led her to become a special education advocate.
Throughout her time teaching, Shannon has witnessed parents who need help navigating through educational systems. She is now taking her extensive knowledge of the public school system to fight for the rights of students with special needs. Her passion and commitment as well as in-depth training gives her the skills to communicate effectively on behalf of the family and collaborate with IEP members to reach the appropriate outcome for the student.
The Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates, Inc. (COPAA) organization of attorneys, advocates, parents and related professionals. COPAA members work to protect the legal and civil rights of and secure excellence in education on behalf of students with disabilities and their families at the national, state and local levels.
TEACCH is a methodology from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill that focuses on individual learning methods for students on the Autism spectrum that need a highly structured learning environment. Shannon has an in-depth knowledge of structured teaching and communication systems for students that require non traditional learning environments.
Unique Learning Systems aka New2You is the premier learning platform for modified curriculum designed to meet state educational codes and the needs of cognitively impacted learners. As a trainer, Shannon works closely with fellow educators to develop learning plans for students with intellectual disabilities.
Shannon has been a mentor teacher for new hired teachers and students working towards their teaching credential. She loves to share the knowledge and wisdom that comes with being an educator for over 20 years.
Shannon has researched, aligned to state standards and designed curriculum for school districts to meet the unique learning needs of students with intellectual disabilities.
